The space planning was an important part of this project because there were so many different areas to fit in a small space. I stuck with my main color choice, red, throughout the entire planning process in order to keep all of the work cohesive. I used rounded seating, tables, and displays to make the environment feel more comfortable to the bakery customers.
I used a mixture of natural and man-made materials in this project. It was a goal to use the existing brick in the space to tie the bakery to the history of the building. I kept the visual weight of the dark materials light with use of glass, light, and bright seating.
From the outside, two of the front windows look into the kitchen. The client has a strong belief that it is important for customers to understand and even visually see how their food is made. For that reason, I put a major decorating and prep table infront of the windows. Not only does this show what goes into the baked goods, but it also draws people in from the streets to taste the delicious treats.
This project was valuable as I learned more about space planning in relation to function and movement in a space. I consider this project to be a turning point for my work in school. Not only was I able to efficiently create a comfortable space, but I was also able to effectively render the space.
