condo

Pro-practice gave me one of my most valuable learning experiences as a designer, specifically residentially. We were asked to meet with a client (brilliantly played by our professor) and interview them about what they wanted to see in the space. We continued the project by designing the condo space to meet the needs of the client, attending several client meetings along the way.

One of the biggest learning experiences of this project was the need to effectivly track hours and budget. While we were free to choose products, furnishings, and decor, we needed to stay within our set budget. This forced me to choose what I wanted to spend more money on and what I needed to be higher quality. We also had quite a bit of math factored into the project, as we were responsible for calculating our designer discounts on anything “purchased” for the project.

While deciding on our finishes, furnishings, and decorative items, we were responsible for functionality of the space. We were asked to question the functionality of the furniture in the space. Since the design was for a showcase Condo, we were asked to give it a lived in feel to show a level of comfort for potential residents.

Overall, the project taught me valuable skills in time management and budgeting that will be used in all of my future work endeavors.
